"PROGRESSIVE RAP" by Shawn Thunderchief Lloyd
rap/hip hop based lyrical delivery over melodic, progressive beats that build up and break down throughout. Beats strongly shy away from tradition of repetitive loops and the songs have no unified repetitive chorus at all. Very much deviates from the standard format. Both Lyrics and beat progress together building up and breaking down with one another as an Orchestra tends to do. Though the style has been kind of flirted with the whole progressive freestyle/improvisation type idea/format, without a unified chorus, over specific type beats, with forward progressing higher conscious minded lyrics, are all concepts that I am first to actually combine and coin as a sub-category of Rap/Hip Hip….For full comprehension and enjoyment of this NEW sub-category it’s helpful to remember that it’s all a progression and not listening to a song in its entirety would be like watching the 1st 75 mins of a movie and then missing the climax. And like all music listening with intent and at a decent volume also helps with comprehension and enjoyment.
All 100% FREESTYLE/IMPROVISATION meaning NONE of the lyrical content was pre-planned, pre-written, recited, or even contemplated prior to my pressing of the record button......All 10 tracks on the mixtape I recorded myself with the one exception being a VERY SPECIAL FREESTYLE COLLAB with my dear brother L.S.T. Lost Soul and was recorded @ BlaqueHart Studios. What we discussed and determined after the fact is that any attempt at writing lyrical content both suitable and powerful in the delivery of, in the Progressive type Rap style, is pretty much a futile effort. Trying to duplicate or dictate the results of what’s to come would be extremely difficult because it’s all about the vibe. Sometimes it’s best to just let it fly because once the vibe is gone, that’s it. Especially if you’re trying to collab!!!!
